Taapsee Pannu's upcoming film Thappad has landed into a controversy with #BanThappad trending all over social media platforms. The film had received wide appreciation due to the social issue pertaining to women rights. Internet slammed Taapsee Pannu for supporting anti Citizen Amendments Act and violence which took place at Jamia Milia University. Recently, Union Minister Smriti Irani had praised the filmmakers for choosing such a brave and relevant issue. Since past one week, Delhi is facing violent protests in various parts with curfew being placed in several areas.

Deepika Padukone faced a backlash after she attended an the protest held by JNU students in New Delhi. Her film Chhapak bumped at the Box Office. The supporters of CAA slammed Deepika Padukone for visiting the students during their protests and standing beside 'anti-nationals' and 'urban naxals.' #BanThappad was trending on Twitter with several users claiming that Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha have opposed the ruling government and their movie should be boycotted. Taapsee has been very vocal about the social issues but this time her comment on social media has led to a backlash.

Taapsee Pannu was asked about her views on CAA to which the actress had said that she does not want to express her views on the issue because she had not studied about the Act. But she said that the violence in Jamia Milia University were very unpleasant and felt sad after seeing the videos. In the video students were talking about their plight and felt that something big has happened or something big will happen in future.

Talking about the film, Thappad has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and also features Dia Mirza and Pavail Gulati in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on February 28.
