KGF Defeats Shahrukh Khan's Zero At The Box Office

KGF has defeated Shahrukh Khan's most expensive movies in his career Zero, at the box office this weekend.

KGF has been running exceptionally better than Shahrukh Khan’s Zero at the box office. The period drama KGF has broken a record in Karnataka cinema with a magnificent opening. The film has collected ₹ 596.1 million while Zero earned about  ₹ 590.7 million for its opening weekend.

One thing should be noticed that KGF came out in multiple languages while Zero mainly focused on North India market. According to business analyst Taran Adarsh, the Hindi version of KGF has earned ₹ 100 million.

The business analyst wrote that this South Hindu movie, starring Yash, had ‘gone from strength to strength’ in the weekend, earning  ₹ 181 million and  ₹192 million on Friday and Saturday and a further ₹218 million on Sunday. Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan’s much-awaited movie Zero collected  ₹ 201 million in its opening and followed with ₹ 182 million on Saturday and  ₹ 207 million on Sunday.

Both movies gained mixed reviews from the critics; however, while KGF was made on a budget of ₹ 500 million, Zero was produced on a budget of ₹ 2 billion. According to Taran Adarsh, a business analyst, Wednesday and Thursday will be a “real test" for the movie. It is also expected to experience growth on the Christmas day.

In Hindustan Times’ 3-star review for KGF, the movie was described as the slow burner. The reviewer wrote,

While KGF debuted in 2460 screens around India, Zero was released on 4380 screens.

Starring Yash and Srinidhi Shetty in the leading roles, KGF was directed and written by Prashanth Neel. KGF stands for Kolar Gold Fields and is the first instalment in the two-part series. The movie also stars Anant Nag and Achyuth Kumar.

Meanwhile, Zero, helmed by Aanand L. Rai, tells the story of Bauua Singh (played by Shahrukh Khan), who falls in love with two beautiful women – a brilliant scientist (played by Anushka Sharma) and a superstar (played by Katrina Kaif). Bauua Singh is now on an adventure to find his true love and his life’s purposes.
