The comic-caper is an official adaptation of the 1995 cult film “Coolie No. 1”, starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles. The remake is being headlined by Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan.

Johnny Lever, one of the finest comedians that Bollywood has ever produced, was most recently seen in Indra Kumar’s comic-caper Total Dhamaal (2019).

The multi-starrer also had Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Riteish Deshmukh and Arshad Warsi in important roles.

However, the veteran comedian stood out from the rest and the credit for the same goes to his ability to tickle everybody’s funny bones. After Total Dhamaal, Johnny Lever has now bagged a new project.

The seasoned comedian has joined Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan on the cast of upcoming comic-caper Coolie No. 1.

As the name aptly suggests, the film is an official remake of the Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer by the same name. The original film released in 1995 and turned out to be a massive hit at the box-office. It has gained cult status over the years.

25 years after the release of Coolie No. 1, the original makers - director David Dhawan and producer Vashu Bhagnani - have teamed up again to remake the classic. After Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan and Paresh Rawal, David Dhawan has now cast Johnny Lever who will be reprising Tiku Talsania’s role of an inspector from the original.

Confirming the development, Johnny Lever says, “I have worked with David in many films, including Deewana Mastana (1997), Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge (2000) and Judwaa 2 (2017). It’s great to team up with him again. He has a good understanding of comedy and we have been in sync since the 90s. It’s a wonderful role.”

Coolie No. 1 is set o begin production in Bangkok on August 5. The film is scheduled to roll into theatres on May 1, 2020.
